Creative journeys in Nature – Shinrin-yoku

“I believe Nature needs us and we need we need to remember we are part of it to find balance, joy and connection in our lives.

All through my life I have found great healing, inspiration and joy spending time in Nature. It has always been essential to my all round well being.  I walk slowly every day in the woods, gathering little treasures of natural wonder, feeling the elements on my skin and opening up to see and hear the plants, trees and woodland inhabitants. I have discovered that this daily practice has been named Shinrin-yoku  (forest bathing) by the Japanese. I call them Wanders for Wellbeing.

Since the 1980’s the Japanese have been conducting studies into the health benefits of spending time in the Forest. All over the world there is arising more and more scientific evidence for what we know to be true… Nature is good for you. It’s where we come from. We are part of it. We evolved with it. It is our natural environment, as opposed to the concrete cities we have created.  It is through our separation that we are getting sick and the environment is getting sick without us tending and respecting it.

However, the tide is turning and embracing a regular dose of Nature into your life, however that looks, is the first step. The trees are waiting for you and I’m here to help.

My Wanders for Wellbeing offer you an actively held safe space in which to connect with the more than human world and your own being.   I curate and plan a route which will offer you safely the best environment for the weather and season so you can relax deeply into the experience.

I craft invitations to awaken and engage all your senses and stir your imagination. I help you to slow down and let go of your busy mind to find pleasure, awe and wonder in the moment. I offer a non-judgemental and supportive safe space to share with others on the walk your insights and experience. Each wander is concluded with a special tea ceremony with tea made from locally foraged plants.

My Creative journeys offer all the above and more. Combining my expressive arts and celebrant skills I curate a journey where we explore and receive the wisdom and medicine of the forest, find creative expression through the mediums of ephemeral art, creative writing and authentic ritual in a reverently playful and spontaneous state of being.

I am currently in training with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs. This training has brought together everything I had been offering and given my practice a stronger frame work and refined my skills. Both my Wanders and Journeys incorporate the standard sequence taught by the ANFT. They also support the 5 ways to mental wellbeing advocated by our NHS.

Give something back

Relate to other people

Exercise your body

Appreciate your world

Try something new

Nature and forest Therapy has an evidence-based framework, established by the ANFT Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, for supporting wellness and health through guided immersive walks in forests and other natural environments. The approach draws on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, as well as nature connection practices and Way of Council.

Creative Journeys

Here is a poem shared by Oli, one of my wanderers on our Hembury walk yesterday. A morning of deep wisdoms and insights received from listening with our whole beings to the more than human world. I love guiding. Such an honour. #foredtbathing #guide #natureswisdom 'Love's Philosophy' by Shelley
The fountains mingle with the river And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of heaven mix for ever With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single; All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle. Why not I with thine?— See the mountains kiss high heaven And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What is all this kissing worth If thou kiss not me?
